Resisting the lure of the local Morrismen (fine calling though it is), I joined a Folk Dance/ Ceilidh band, graduating from guitar strummer to banjo/ mandolin picker after a year or two. At the same time I was a regular player at pub sessions, and from there it was a logical step to form a 'proper' pub band, singing traditional songs and playing jigs and reels at breakneck speeds.

I took up the electric guitar at secondary school, having had little prior musical training other than a brief sojourn in the church choir and a few terms tootling merrily (but largely tunelessly) on a recorder at primary school. After a few years spent creating, joining or departing from college bands, I traded in my Marshall stack for a mandolin and discovered the merits of acoustic music on holiday at Sidmouth Folk Festival.

Two moderately successful bands later, I was once more in a group mainly playing for folk dancing, but my songwriting was flourishing and between the dances we would often strike up one of my original pieces. Encouraged by positive reaction to these, and whilst embarking on a new adventure in my personal circumstances, I decided my music needed to be recorded for posterity, and performed in the here and now.
Music maketh the man . . .
. . . and the man maketh music
